Bookkeeper

Overview: Compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep financial records complete. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other workers.
Duties:
Degree(s): A.A.S. Accounting 
Job Outlook: Employment of bookkeepers is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018. A growing economy will result in more financial transactions that require these workers as will a demand for accuracy and accountability and transparency in public companies.
Education Level: The typical training required for this career is generally a High School Degree or GED Certificate.

  • Paying attention to what other people are saying, and taking time to understand the points being made.
  • Using mathematics and/or statistics to solve problems.
  • The ability to understand complex written paragraphs, instructions, or reports.
  • Using logic to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Composing and communicating your ideas in written form.
