|Overview:||Operate or maintain stationary engines, boilers, or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes. Operate equipment, such as steam engines, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers.|
|Degree(s):||A.S. Engineering Science
|Job Outlook:||Employment of operating engineers is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018 if government allocates much needed funds to improve the infrastructure for an increasing population. An expected rise in energy production is expected to increase work on oil rigs, smart grids, windmill farms, pipeline construction, and other types of power-generating facilities. Also, increased output of mines and rock and gravel quarries will generate jobs in the mining industry.|
|Education Level:||Training for this occupation generally requires a High School Degree, plus additional coursework in a vocational or technical school. In some cases, employers may require an Associate Degree.|
