Electric Motor Mechanic

Overview: Test, repair, rebuild, and assemble electric motors, generators, and equipment.
Duties:
Degree(s): A.A.S. Electronic Engineering Technology 
Job Outlook: Employment of electric motor mechanics is expected to grow more slowly than average through 2018.Improvements in electrical and electronic equipment design, as well as the increased use of disposable tool parts should suppress job growth.
Education Level: Training for this occupation generally requires a High School Degree, plus additional coursework in a vocational or technical school. In some cases, employers may require an Associate Degree.
Recommended Skills:
  • Analyzing requirements for a new product or service and creating a design to satisfy those needs.
  • Identifying the most appropriate equipment and tools needed to get a job done.
  • Installing equipment, machines, wiring, etc. according to a set of specifications.
  • Performing routine maintenance and/or repairs on equipment using the appropriate tools.
  • Watching gauges and any other types of indicators to make sure equipment is running properly.
  • Inspecting and testing products or services to assure they meet the desired specifications.
