Production, Planning, and Expediting Clerks

Overview: Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments of an establishment according to production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems.

Job Outlook: Employment of production, planning, and expediting clerks is projected to grow more slowly than average through 2018. As greater emphasis is placed on the timely delivery of goods and services throughout the economy, there will be increasing need for production, planning, and expediting clerks at all levels of the supply chain. However, the expected employment declines in manufacturing will limit the growth of this occupation.
