Retail Salespersons

Overview: Sell merchandise, such as furniture, motor vehicles, appliances, or apparel in a retail establishment.
Duties:
Degree(s): A.A. Liberal Arts and Sciences 
A.S. Liberal Arts and Sciences (Mathematics and Science) 
Job Outlook: Employment of retail sales persons is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018. Growth will be fastest in large chain general merchandise stores.Employment is expected to decline in department stores as many consumers prefer to shop online. Retail salespersons will remain important in assisting customers, providing specialized service, and increasing customer satisfaction.
Education Level: The typical training required for this career is generally a High School Degree or GED Certificate.

  • Teaching others how to do something.
  • Talking, giving speeches, or speaking in a group to convey information, explain ideas, or give instructions.
  • Weighing out the options in a situation or a problem and logically choosing the best course of action.

  • Paying attention to what other people are saying, and taking time to understand the points being made.
  • Being aware of the reactions of others, and understanding why they react the way they do.

  • The ability to understand complex written paragraphs, instructions, or reports.
