Music Arrangers and Orchestrators

Overview: Write and transcribe musical scores.
Duties:
Degree(s): A.A.S. Music Production 
Job Outlook: Employment of music arranger and orchestrators is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018. Competition is expected to be keen. The vast number of people with the desire to perform will continue to greatly exceed the number of openings. Talented individuals who are skilled in multiple instruments or musical styles will have the best job prospects.
Education Level: Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.
Recommended Skills:
  • Dance, drama, music, that is, things that are performed in front of an audience.
  • Composing and communicating your ideas in written form.
  • Ability to identify a problem, review related information, develop and evaluate options, and implement a solution.
  • The ability to understand complex written paragraphs, instructions, or reports.
  • Paying attention to what other people are saying, and taking time to understand the points being made.
Recommended Values:
  • Doing something where you can physically see the results of your work.
  • Being able to express creative ideas through the arts.
