Dental / Orthodontic Office Administrator

Overview: These office administrators assist the team by scheduling appointments, and performing clerical and bookkeeping duties. They help prepare financial arrangements for patients; maintain phone contacts with patients, other dental specialists and doctors; and perform customer service relations.
Duties: They perform a variety of information handling duties to organize and create computer-based files or physical files for storage and retrieval patients charts.

They decide how to classify and code business records so they can be easily summarized and interpreted.

They may prepare and sent out invoices to customers and log-in customers' payments.

They prepare accounting reports summarizing expenses and revenues. They may also prepare detailed reports of customer activities.

Job Outlook: Employment of dental/orthodontic office administration is expected to grow much faster than average through 2018 as more people have dental insurance and seek out the services of a dentist.
Salary Range (National Average): $24,000 to $28,000
Education Level: The typical training required for this career is generally a High School Degree or GED Certificate.
Additional Training/Education: Because of the wide-spread application of new office automation, most employers seek high school graduates with formal training in office technology and office systems. The recommended courses include micro-computer data base management, word processing, desktop publishing, accounting and business law. Training programs of one-year or less are offered by applied technology, business schools and community colleges.
