Sales Representative (Educational Materials)

Overview: Educational sales representatives contact managers of business organizations and government agencies to identify the skills training needs of their workforce. They help customer's executives design surveys and performance tests to assess their employees' skills.
Duties: They confer with customer's executives to identify the training needs of the organization's workforce. Typical needs include manager training about discrimination, harassment, wages and benefits, etc.

They prepare training program proposals and give oral marketing presentations to customer executives to explain how the proposed training programs will correct workforce skills deficiencies.

Confer with customers to negotiate a contract specifying training program content, objectives, methods and numbers of employees to be trained. Specify training schedules and instructors needed.

They monitor the development and implementation of the contract's training programs. Assist customers to conduct the training programs and assess the end results by surveys and experiments.

Degree(s): A.A./B.A. QCC/QC Dual/Joint Liberal Arts & Sciences and Childhood Education (Grades 1-6) 
Job Outlook: Employment of sales representatives (Computers) is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018. Job growth will result from the continued expansion in the variety and number of products sold and sales representatives will be needed to accommodate this expansion. Sales representatives can help ensure that retailers offer the latest products to their customers and businesses acquire the tools they need to increase their efficiency.
Starting Salary: Experienced sales representatives are paid on the basis of salary plus commission and bonuses.
Salary Range (National Average): $30,000 to $35,000
Education Level: Training for this occupation generally requires an Associate Degree from a 2 year or community college.
Additional Training/Education: Producers and publishers of educational materials prefer to hire graduates with a college degree and a course background in marketing, education and human resource management. New sales workers are often trained by accompanying experienced sales people on sales calls.
