Hotel Manager

Overview: Hotel managers are responsible for profitable operation of a hotel, motel or inn. They must determine what room rates and services will attract the ideal number of guests. They select, train & evaluate staff employees and determine what kind of guest dining and recreation to provide.
Duties: They plan how to maximize the profitability of a hotel, motel or inn by attracting guests and increasing the room occupancy rates.

They plan advertising strategy to make travelers familiar with the hotel or attract their attention while in transit. Plan special room rates and services for repeat customers.

They negotiate with tourist offices or clubs in order to secure large groups of clients on a bus or air travel tours on a contract basis.

They select, hire, train and manage hotel staff workers including kitchen and room cleaning workers. They decide upon types of food to serve in the hotel's dining facilities.

A.S. Business Administration (Accounting and Marketing) 
Job Outlook: Employment of hotel managers is expected to grow more slowly than average through 2018 despite the growth in travel and tourism. Hotels are streamlining operations and assigning one manager to oversee multiple properties within a region. Best opportunities will be in larger, full-service hotels, resorts, casinos, and convention centers.
Starting Salary: Many managers earn an additional 15% to 25% bonus on their base salary.
Salary Range (National Average): $28,000 to $33,000
Education Level: The typical training required for this career is generally a High School Degree or GED Certificate.
Additional Training/Education: A bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant administration provides the ideal preparation for this occupation. However, a bachelor's or associate degree in business, economics or liberal arts, when coupled with hotel experience is often acceptable. Newly hired graduates usually start as trainee assistant managers responsible for all departments.
