Occupational Analyst

Overview: Occupational analysts study the duties, qualifications & relationships between occupations. They design classification schemes to show how persons from one occupation can transfer to another. They use their results to design occupational career development planning programs.
Duties: They analyze and compare the duties, skills, knowledge and experience requirements for occupation and jobs within an industry. They identify which occupations have similarities.

They cluster and group occupations into families based upon their similarities. Determine the kinds of skills training and experiences workers need to transfer from one job to another.

They design career development planning programs for use in schools and industry to explain how a person's skills, interests and values can be matched up with an occupation's qualifications.

They make projections about the future demand for workers in each occupation based upon changing technology, changes in consumer demand, laws and international competition.

Degree(s): A.A.S. Management: Marketing Concentration 
A.A.S. Management: Real Estate-Insurance Concentration 
A.S. Business Administration (Accounting and Marketing) 
Job Outlook: Employment of occupational analysts is expected to grow faster than average through 2018 spurred by legislation and court rulings revising employer standards in various areas.Job growth could be limited by the widespread use of computerized occupational analyst information systems that make workers more productive. Firms involved in management, consulting, and employment services and outsourcing firms should offer many job opportunities.
Salary Range (National Average): $32,000 to $36,000
Education Level: Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.
Additional Training/Education: A bachelor's degree or a master's degree in human resource management or in psychology with a concentration in industrial and organizational psychology is the preferred background for this occupation. Courses in career development, organization behavior, computer applications and industrial relations will strengthen your credentials.
