|Overview:||Systems accountants design and install customized accounting methods in organizations which are too complex to use off-the-shelf accounting systems. They specify the kinds of financial records, computer processing programs and reports needed by the organization's managers.|
|Duties:||Systems accountants assess an organization's accounting needs by surveying the organization's executives and managers. They decide what kind of accounting reports are needed for effective business decisions.
Systems accountants design flow charts to describe the actual steps needed to capture the organization's new data, analyze the data and generate summary reports for use by management. They determine what kinds of mathematical and statistical methods are needed to analyze the raw data and supervise computer programmers who write the programs needed to implement a new system.
Systems accountants design the computer generated reports that can be printed for executives or displayed into the company computer system and assure the accounting process complies with accounting standards.

|Salary Range (National Average):||$43,000 to $47,000|
|Education Level:||Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.|
|Additional Training/Education:||Most public accounting firms, business organizations and government agencies require applicants for accounting and internal audit positions to have at least a bachelor's degree in accounting. An in depth knowledge of computer-based accounting systems is mandatory.|
