|Overview:||Budget accountants estimate future revenues and expenses of organizations in order to prepare new budgets. They analyze records of present and past operations, costs trends, estimated and actual revenues and management commitments. They install accounting procedures to control the budgets.|
|Duties:||Budget accountants design and develop new accounting methods to monitor and control an organization's budgeting of funds for specific projects and operations.
They track an organization's daily expenses and revenues to determine whether they are proceding according to early plans and objectives.
Budget accountants advise executives and department managers when their expenditures are in excess of the amounts budgeted and what kind of cut-backs are needed.
They make projections for next year's budget based on the flow of expenditures and revenues from current business operations. They advise management of irregularities in requests for funds.

|Job Outlook:||Employment of budget accountants is expected to grow faster than average through 2018. Growth is spurred by the need for greater attention to budget planning and financial control and for the need to replace workers who are retiring.|
|Salary Range (National Average):||$40,000 to $45,000|
|Education Level:||Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college (some are 5 years) is required to be considered for this occupation.|
|Additional Training/Education:||Most public accounting firms, business organizations and government agencies require applicants for accounting and internal audit positions to have at least a bachelor's degree in accounting. Most employers require that applicants be familiar with computer based accounting systems.|
Understanding acquiring positions in this field may be enhanced through continuing academic study (i.e. earning a baccalaureate or a master's degree) and/or work experience in the field, Queensborough Community College has established transfer agreements with other institutions for students who wish to further pursue their educational goals.
