Audiovisual Production Specialist

Overview: Audiovisual production specialists (Instructional Technology Specialists)are responsible for designing and producing artistic materials for the purpose of communicating information by means of TV, videotape, books, and radio. They convert ideas into artistic illustrations & audio-visual scripts for commercial applications.
Duties: Audiovisual production specialists design and produce audio and visual artistic works to be used in TV productions, stage performances or exhibits for conferences and special events.

They interview clients such as advertisers, stage directors or exhibit designers to determine their audio visual needs. They propose ideas & artistic concepts to clients for their critique.

Audiovisual production specialists produce a "rough draft" proposal of audio-visual projects for review with clients and for cost-estimations.

They evaluate and purchase new equipment for sound and video recording and special effects equipment that can generate new sounds by electronic fitting and enhancements.

Degree(s): A.A.S. Music Production 
Job Outlook: Employment of audiovisual production specialists will grow faster than average through 2018. Best prospects will be for those skilled in digital filming, editing, and computer-generated imaging.
Salary Range (National Average): $35,000 to $40,000
Education Level: Training for this occupation generally requires an Associate Degree from a 2 year or community college.
Additional Training/Education: An associate degree in broadcasting or communications from a community college or art school is the typical educational background needed to qualify for this occupation. Some applicants have a bachelor's degree. A concentration of courses in video technology, photography, script writing and computer-based graphics are essential.
Advancement Info: Audio-visual specialists often need additional training to advance. Some specialists advance to administrative jobs. For example, a specialist might become a media program coordinator for a large school district. Also, a specialist might advance to a job in curriculum development. Some specialists become college instructors or directors of college media programs.
