Preschool Administrator

Overview: Preschool administrators supervise the activities of day care and child development centers. They prepare school budgets, interview, hire and evaluate teachers and confer with parents on policies, activities and enrollment.
Duties: They propose and develop curriculum and activities for child development centers that meet the needs of the children enrolled, and conform to state regulations which monitor the schools.

They plan and control budgets to pay for costs of teachers, food, vehicles, facilities, teaching & recreational materials, etc. Confer with agencies or school owners to finalize the budget.

They decide upon evaluation plans to measure the effectiveness of the school in terms of criteria such as student learning, student behavior, satisfaction of parents and school staff.

They confer with parents and teaching staff regarding behavioral problems of children, as well as the school's enrollment policies, curriculum and methods used to counsel children.

Degree(s): A.A.S. Management: Marketing Concentration 
A.A.S. Management: Real Estate-Insurance Concentration 
A.S. Business Administration (Accounting and Marketing) 
Job Outlook: Employment of education administrators is expected to grow as fast as average through 2018 due to substantial growth because of increasing enrollments in formal child care programs as fewer young children are cared for in private homes. In addition, as more States implement or expand public preschool programs, more preschool directors will be needed.
Salary Range (National Average): $24,000 to $28,000
Education Level: Training for this occupation generally requires an Associate Degree from a 2 year or community college.
Additional Training/Education: A bachelor's degree in early childhood education and school administration with certification in nursery school/kindergarten teaching is the preferred educational background for the position of preschool administrator. Most administrators have preschool teaching experience prior to promotion to an administrative position. Courses in child development, special needs children, cultural diversity, gifted children and computer applications in education will strengthen your credentials.
